South Australia Attorney General John Rau supports R18+ rating

australia

Australian gamers may finally have something to be excited about now that South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson has stepped down from his position.

According to a news report, his replacement, John Rau, has voiced the opinion that an R18+ videogame rating makes perfect sense for the country.

Australian Fox affiliate News.com is reporting that the incumbent is open to the possibility, per a statement from Gamers4Croydon party president Chris Prior.

"Just over a week ago, I had the pleasure of meeting him personally when I attended an election forum in his electorate," said Prior.

"He indicated to me that the lack of an R18+ for games seemed absurd, and that it was really just common sense to introduce it, considering the vast majority of adult content is already available under the MA15+ classification."

The lone hold-out in the R18+ rating had been Atkinson, and because a positive vote for the measure wold require all six of Australia's Attorney Generals to come to a unanimous decision, Atkinson was keeping the rating from happening.

It looks like Australian gamers may finally get what they want when the rating proposal come up for discussion in late April.

We're keeping our fingers crossed at least.
