Friends come, friends go. And it sounds as though the PlayStation team's been pressing flesh.

An industry source has told VG247 that the Call of Duty platform partnership, up to now held solely by Microsoft with Xbox, is to be confirmed as having moved to PlayStation at E3 later today.

Microsoft made no mention of Black Ops 3, the 2015 Call of Duty release, in its E3 press conference in LA this morning. The next CoD title is traditionally heavily showcased at the Xbox event.

The platform exclusivity partnership traditionally covers DLC as timed exclusives. Microsoft has a long history of teaming with Activision in this way, beginning with an Xbox 360-exclusive multiplayer beta announced in 2007 for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

The first timed exclusive on additional content to a main CoD game was the Xbox 360 release of the Resurgence Package DLC for Modern Warfare 2 in 2010. Every Call of Duty game since has shipped its DLC to Xbox platforms first.

It was noticed in early June that no “content first” badge had been placed on Black Ops 3 on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Sony’s E3 press conference will take place in Los Angeles this evening, West Coast time. Get information on all the E3 press conferences, including streams and times, right here.
