Soulcalibur 6 character roster: a guide to every confirmed character

Every character returning to Soulcalibur's stage of history listed, plus videos of them in action.

Back when Soulcalibur 6 (and yes, that's not missing a space - it really is written like that, not Soul Calibur 6) was announced at The Game Awards 2017, it was announced in a predictable manner - debuted with two of the most classic, beloved characters from the Soul series that began with Soul Edge and truly ascended to fighting game legend status with Soulcalibur. Since then a number of characters have been announced - returning, new, and even a special guest, as is series tradition.

Characters in Soulcalibur are often unique compared to other fighting games because it's a weapon-based fighting game. Some characters might have magic or may use their fists some of the time, but for the most part this is a game about weapons, and all manner of traditional melee weapons are typically represented in the series - rods, broadswords, nunchaku, daggers, tonfa, hammers, simple sword and shield - it's all there. This means a lot of characters have really, truly unique play styles.

On this page we're going to run down all of the characters announced for Soulcalibur 6, plus a little insight into who they are and what they do. SC6 is out for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on October 19. Here's our complete Soulcalibur 6 character roster:

Soulcalibur 6 character roster: the complete character list announced so far

Here's every character in Soulcalibur 6 so far, then - they're listed alphabetically, for the record.

  • Geralt of Rivia

A guest character, Geralt comes from the world of The Witcher, a series many gaming RPG fans will know well. Geralt comes boasting a variety of skills based on his abilities in the game, and he even has a home stage that looks like it's been ripped straight from The Witcher 3 proper. Geralt being included has him following in the footsteps of the likes of Darth Vader, Yoda, Link, Heihachi and Assassin's Creed's Ezio as a guest character in the tale of souls and swords.

  • Groh / Grøh

Groh (technically written Grøh) was the first announced newcomer to the series for Soulcalibur 6, and he's the first character from the Nordic part of the world to be featured in the series. He's known to have worked for a mysterious, dangerous group known as the Aval Organization, and he wields a double-ended sword. He's sure to be key to SC6's story.

  • Ivy

“This place shall be your grave!” Isabella "Ivy" Valentine returns to the stage of history armed with her signature Snake Sword. She made her debut on the character roster of 1998's Soulcalibur, and she's been in every single entry of the series ever since - SC6 is of course no exception. Her sense of dress is as outlandish as ever - perhaps more so than ever before, in fact.

  • Kilik

As the video above might clue you in on... something is up with Kilik. Soulcalibur's staff-wielding goody-two-shoes is back and looking quite familiar, though there's also a segment of the trailer where Kilik finds himself consumed by his 'bloodlust' - and he starts to look rather dangerously evil. What could it all mean...?

  • Maxi

Known as the 'Dandy of the Seas', Maxi is a stylish, lightning-fast fighter who uses nunchaku known as Fatibal as his weapon of choice. He's been a series staple, and his fighting style is designed to get in the face of enemies and absolutely overwhelm them with a seemingly endless flurry of rapid strikes.

  • Mitsurugi

Arguably the most iconic character in all of Soulcalibur, Mitsurugi first made his appearance in the original Soul Edge a good two decades ago, and now he's become something of a series mascot. He's back in SC6, samurai sword in hand and impeccable sword stance ready... and he looks as bad-ass as ever.

  • Nightmare

Nightmare has been the ever-present evil beast of the Soul series character roster ever since Soul Edge in the mid-90s - indeed, that game was named after his sword. He returns clutching the evil sword of Soul Edge in SC6, and he's coming packing a lot of the same slow-moving but incredibly hard-hitting moves he's always had.

  • Siegfried

After losing to Kilik and his comrades in the form of Nightmare, Siegfried awoke in an unfamiliar place and he is now unable to free himself from the unforgiving memories of his time spent as the cursed sword’s puppet. The memory of having killed his own father is haunting him. His true nightmare has only just begun... Siegfried returns, one of only four characters to appear in every single Soul series game right back to Soul Edge.

  • Sophitia

After a stint of her spot in the series being stolen away by her kids, Sophitia is back in Soulcalibur proper for what appears to be a sort of soft-reboot of the franchise story after SC2. She was one of the first characters announced for the game, and keeps many of her classic moves including her neck-snapping throw and shield-based moves.

  • Taki

After a brief break from the series for Soulcalibur 5, fan favorite ninja Taki returns to the Soulcalibur 6 character list! She's a famous ninja also known as the Fu-Ma’s Shadow, so there’s no doubting her fighting skills! She is also an expert in blacksmithing having crafted her own two swords Rekki-Maru & Mekki-Maru. Her last master piece Mekki-Maru is fused with a fragment of the Cursed Sword. Even if the whereabouts of the Soul Edge are unknown, Taki’s weapon still glows with a mysterious power...

  • Talim

Talim is the Last Priestess of the Winds, and as a result she has powers in her fighting style all related to using the power of the wind to control her enemies. She wields two ancestral elbow blades, Syi Sarika and Loka Luha, and has a fluid fighting stlye that quite delibately looks a lot like dance. After living on a secluded island for her whole life, Talim is called to her destiny in the battle for Soul Edge.

  • Xianghua

After arriving in the original Soulcalibur's character roster (the second in the series - yep, that's a bit confusing), Chinese master of the sword Xianghua is one of the most beloved and iconic characters in the series. She returns in SC6 with her classic move set intact and a nifty new super move.

  • Yoshimitsu

It wouldn't be a 3D Namco fighting game without Yoshimitsu, dubbed "the original mechanical ninja" in Soulcalibur 6. Yoshi fights with a Manji Sword and Fu-Ma Blade with a fighting style that's known as Manji Ninjitsu - and it features all the ninja tricks you'd expect. He also has a super bad-ass design in general - way better than his look in Tekken 7, if you ask us...

  • Zasalamel

"Know the power of the abyss!" Zasalamel returns to the stage of history wielding his iconic Death Scythe, Kafziel. Zasalamel first made his appearance in Soulcalibur 3 and has been a series staple ever since. He carries a deadly scythe, but he shouldn't be underestimated even when the scythe is out of reach - he's a magician, and even if he is killed his soul gets reborn in a new body with his memories intact.
