Sony Online Entertainment's unannounced MMO isn't sci-fi, Smedley starts dropping hints

SOE president John Smedley has been discussing the studio's new, unannounced MMO on Twitter, and has stressed that it's neither sci-fi nor set in the Wild West. That said, he's dropped a few interesting nuggets online.

Last month we reported on Smedley's Reddit AMA, in which he confirmed that fans of Star Wars Galaxies will particularly enjoy the new MMO.

DualShockers has since been watching Smedley's Twitter feed like a hawk and has dug up some interesting points.

As for why it won't be a sci-fi MMO, Smedley told one fan:

This has riled a few Star Wars Galaxies fans it seems, and Smedley even conceded that “Not everyone will like the theme.” This got gamers speculating as to what the setting might be. For starters, he suggested that fans of Galaxies' more sandbox elements - town building, player-controlled bases, extensive crafting options and such - will enjoy the new game.

It's definitely a first-person title, he says, and he teased that he's a fan of the show Revolution, in which the world's power shuts off and enters Earth into a post-apocalyptic state. He even told one fan that there's, “a post-apocalyptic game cooking somewhere."

He also said - when one fan suggested an apocalyptic zombie MMO might be neat - that, "there are a lot of cool cross/genre things you could do with that I think."

There's no word on whether or not the mystery game will be free yet, but when it was suggested that all good MMOs need subscription fees he replied, “no they don’t."

What do you make of the above folks? We'll have more as it comes.
