Sony explains why it chose to call its controller Move

Move 4

Sony has explained why it chose to call its motion controller Move instead of the rumored Arc or Gem.

Apparently, there's a rumor going 'round that Microsoft had already trademarked the name Arc - for something - and Move was a last minute change. However, Sony, says Move was chosen because it "conveyed" what the controller stood for - moving.

"It's great - everyone's so interested in how our company names products," Sony VP Scott Rohde told IndustryGamers. "It's like at any other company, everyone dumps in their ideas and you've got agencies out there coming up with names.

"At the end of the day, we really felt that Move conveyed what the controller is all about. It's a word that the smallest kid understands, and it's a really good name. I'm happy with it."

Guess that means they didn't just throw ideas into a hand and reach in and pick one.

Move was revealed as the controllers name at GDC last week, and it's slated for release in the fall.

There will be 20 first-party games released for it this year and 36 third-parties are on board.
