Sonic the Hedgehog is a playable character in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD.

“Sonic the Hedgehog is available as a hidden, unlockable character,” Sega said in a press release today. “Playing as the world’s fastest hedgehog comes with some unique effects. In addition to boasting incredible speed (obviously), selecting Sonic automatically changes all stages’ bananas to golden rings, complete with nostalgic, classic SFX!”

Banana Blitz HD is a remake of a game developed for the Nintendo Wii in 2006. This updated version features 100 single-player stages, online leaderboards for the single-player Time Attack mode, 10 multiplayer minigames, a sprinkling of boss battles, and a new Minigame Decathalon Score Attack mode. The game supports 1080p at 60fps, and the motion control of the original Super Monkey Ball (Wii) has been removed in favor of more tightened analog controls.

Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 29. A version on Windows PC is slated for winter 2019 through Steam.
