Sonic CD announced for winter release on consoles, PC, iOS and Android

Sega's formally announced Sonic CD following an earlier slip-up this week by Major Nelson.

A port of the 1993 version that appeared on Mega CD and prequel to Sonic 4, it'll appear on PSN, XBLA, PC, iOS, Android and Windows 7 this winter.

The 2011 version will include the original Japanese soundtrack, as well as see the introduction of Metal Sonic and Amy Rose.

"Ask any Sonic fan to name their favourite games, and Sonic CD always ranks near the top of their lists," said Sega West digital business VP, Haruki Satomi.

"Sonic CD marks an important chapter in Sonic’s history, bridging the gap between his oldest adventures and his new digital exploits like Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I. We’ve made sure the re-mastered edition has everything that Sonic fans want to see with all of the original colourful classic zones."

The game will be at PAX, according to the Major's earlier boo-boo. You can find the first trailer for it below, via GameSpot.
