Skullgirls DLC crowd-funding hits target in less than 24 hours

Skullgirls has shattered IndieGoGo records in reaching its $150,000 crowd-funding goal in less than a day.

By the end of its first 24 hour period, the campaign has accumulated over $175,000 in pledges from over 2800 backers. It has 30 days still to run, but Lab Zero Games can already lay claim to the most funded game ever on Indiegogo platform.

Because the DLC character's development has been completely funded, Squigly will be released for free for a limited time, and as the campaign reached its target so quickly, Lab Zero Games will receive the full amount almost immediately, allowing it to begin work straight away.

Should the campaign reach its stretch goals, Lab Zero Games may be able to deliver two more DLC characters among a number of other goodies. Rewards of various values are offered to backers.

The success story is pretty heartwarming given how hard the Skullgirls development team has worked to bring the much-requested character to market. Laid off from Reverge Labs en masse, the team reformed as Lab Zero Inc and forged a good relationship with Skullgirls publisher Autumn Games, but the latter is unable to splash much cash around at the moment.

A Skullgirls sequel and PC port are expected at a later date.
