You won't see Shadow of the Beast's true ending in easy mode

Shadow of the Beast developer Heavy Spectrum has released a new trailer focused on gameplay, and provided more detail on the sidescroller's systems - including its difficulty levels.

On the PlayStation Blog, CEO Matt Birch said the team decided to include a beginner difficulty option, but that you'll need to play on higher difficulties "to see anything beyond the most basic ending".

Although combat is simple and most enemies die in one hit, different enemy types have different abilities and timings to master. Timing attacks to meet multiple accelerating foes is where skilled players will shine, combining basic attacks, blocks, counters, stuns, throws, special attacks, evades and dodge rolls as well as the mysterious "Wrath of Aarbron" and "Rage Chains" in order to score huge combo multipliers.

To help you master the challenges ahead, there's an upgrade system called Wisdom of Shadows. Players will need to hunt down secrets to unlock upgrades, which are then purchased with a currency called Mana. More mana can be earned by performing well in combat.
