Settlement reached in Crytek's lawsuit against Cloud Imperium Games

Crytek's lawsuit against Star Citizen developers Cloud Imperium Games has been settled.

Both companies had previously discussed the possibility of dismissal of the suit but could not reach an agreement. But now, there seems to have been an agreement inked.

Details on the settlement were not disclosed but according to Gamasutra, both parties have jointly filed to have the case dismissed "within 30 days of the settlement agreement."

Back In January, Crytek wanted to have its case against Cloud Imperium dismissed until Star Citizen spin-off Squadron 42 was released. Later that month, Cloud Imperium hit back at Crytek over its motion to dismiss its own lawsuit, saying the firm could "no longer delay the inevitable reckoning that its claim is and has always been meritless.”

Crytek filed suit against the Star Citizen developer back in 2017 for copyright infringement and breach of contract for switching Crytek’s CryEngine to Amazon’s Lumberyard engine. The suit also brought in Squadron 42 as Crytek claimed the original license agreement for CryEngine was only for Star Citizen, not a second, separate game. Cloud Imperium Games said at the time it had switched from CryEngine to Amazon’s Lumberyard engine for Squadron 42.

Squadron 42 was initially set for release in 2016, before it was delayed with a tentative 2017 release target. Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium is now planning a beta for the second half of 2020.
