SCEA boss calls Pub Fund the "only" major console self-publishing option

Sony believes its indie support is the best in the business.

Speaking at GDC, as reported by Develop, SCEA Developer Relations boss Ted Regulski said Sony is "the only major console publisher to allow self-publishing”.

“There are others but they have publishing rules that aren’t much fun, and there are no weird limits you have to hit in order for us to pay you”.

Regulski highlighted some of the Pub Fund's attractions; he said the scheme's exclusivity period is just one year, and claimed it offers better royalties than either Microsoft or Nintendo's publishing funds.

Sony is currently seeking new pub fund projects from indies which make good use of the Vita's unique hardware capacities.

Previous pub fund takers which have gone on to success include Explodemon and Joe Danger, the latter of which is coming to Xbox Live Arcade.

The subject of which platform offers the best business model for indies turned into a bit of a cat fight last year; Jack Buser claimed in January that Sony has shelled out more for indies than Microsoft and Nintendo combined.
