Rust update removes zombies, hints at future replacement enemy

Rust is now one step further away from DayZ comparisons thanks to the removal of zombie enemies.

"We decided we couldn’t hold off any longer. The longer we keep zombies in – the more complaints we’d get about removing them," FacePunch said in the latest patch notes.

Reaction in the comments has been quite mixed; those who were after a DayZ clone or just really, really like zombies are distraught and disgusted, while beard-strokers like myself are keen to see where the survival sandbox will go now that it's taking steps to differentiate itself.

The zombies have been replaced with red bears and wolves, but these enemies are just a placeholder - unfortunately, FacePunch isn't ready to tell us what it's going to put in instead.

Other changes wrought by the February 6 update include better wildlife, improved resource objects, bug fixes and new animations.

Rust is currently available through Steam Early Access. Dave's pretty bad at it, which affords me great amusement.

Thanks, Destructoid.
