Rumour - GTA V to feature multiple protagonists, set in LA

Hot on the heels of the game's formal announcement the Grand Theft Auto V rumour mill has kicked into gear.

Kotaku is citing an anonymous source close to the project for a Los Angeles setting for the game.

The source also claims the game will feature more than one playable character, although it's not clear whether the player is offered a choice or switches between them in the course of the story.

Neither of these rumours are entirely new, which makes them all the more interesting. Rumours of a Hollywood setting emerged in July 2010, and were given greater weight by the unearthing of a casting call for something codenamed Rush, which included a small family group. Another, later casting call made mention of five primary characters.

Redacted retail listings and the release of Max Payne 3 in March suggests we can expect GTA V in the 2012 holiday season; a debut trailer on November 2 and Take Two's financials in a fortnight hint that we'll have more concrete information soon.
