Diablo III beta gets downtime after opening up

Blizzard is performing downtime work on the Diablo III beta after it apparently opened up to anyone with a Battle.net account, suggesting that wasn't meant to be the case at all.

"The Diablo III beta is currently not available for play while we're working to resolve an issue," said community rep Ulvareth.

'We don't have a current ETA for the beta to be back and running at the moment, but we plan to share an update with you in approximately 2 hours from now."

The Diablo III forums itself and GAF claimed earlier the game's beta had opened up to anyone who had a Battle.net account.

Players who didn't have access to the closed beta beforehand were apparently able to download the client, then download the beta itself and play it.

Blizzard said yesterday the beta would end on May 1.

Diablo III launches on May 15 worldwide. Thanks, StolenGlory.
