Rumor - Blizzard working on a free-to-play title

A report posted over on Develop is stating that Blizzard will go the free-to-play route in an upcoming, unannounced game.

A source "connected on the matter" told Develop that the studio plans to expand int's business models to include both subscription and freemium titles.

The firm has previously said it would look at all business models in the future but has yet to confirm a F2P model is in the works on any title.

“It certainly is possible, if we find ourselves in that circumstance, or if we come up with a game where we think that’s the right business model, the most appropriate for players to experience it,” Blizzard COO Paul Sams said during BlizzCon 2011.

“We don’t have any opposition to the concept, it’s just that at this point we haven’t decided to make a game where that is the model. But that doesn’t mean that we won’t.”

Currently, WoW allows folks to play up to level 20 for free, and the firm has another MMO in the works - Project Titan - but little to nothing is known about it at this point.

A Blizzard spokesperson has declined comment on the matter.
