Royal Quest studio: MMOs are the "future of games," genre "stagnated"

Katauri Interactive’s boss Dmitry Gusarov has told RPS that the future's online. Who knew?

Speaking off the back of last week's announcement of Royal Quest, 1C's first MMO, Gusarov said the entire genre needs a kick in the ass.

"What we can currently see on the MMO market is stagnation in terms of creativity," he said.

"For many years people are playing the same games like WoW and Lineage II. As we can see there are no fast paced Diablo-style games at the moment and we want to bring this experience to the audience."

MMO is the only way to go, though.

"We consider the future of games to be in the MMO genre," Gusarov added.

"Actually, we have played online games a lot during recent years. And now the time has come to combine hobby and business."

Royal Quest is set in a fantasy world called Aura, and, is based on capturing castles and gathering gold. It's out in 2012.

Katauri previously developed King’s Bounty and Space Rangers.
