Angry Birds Space: 60 levels, 6 new characters, zero-gravity setting, retail release

Rovio has announced Angry Birds Space will launch with 60 levels, six new characters and superpowers, and gameplay features based on a zero-gravity setting.

New levels will be added as free updates and the game will be shown for the first time on March 9 at SWSX in Austin, Texas using the Samsung Galaxy Note.

Rovio has also partnered with NASA on the launch and even garnered the help of flight engineer Don Pettit, who introduces the game from the International Space Station in the video posted below.

National Geographic Books is also part of the launch, as it will publish a companion book for Angry Birds Space.

"This collaboration began with a simple Twitter exchange about birds and pigs in space, and it has grown into a tremendous outreach and education opportunity," said NASA's associate administrator for communications David Weaver.

"Games are fun and entertaining, but they also can be inspirational and informative. This ongoing collaboration with Rovio and Angry Birds is an exciting way to get people engaged with NASA's missions of exploration and discovery, and get students energized about future careers in science and technology."

The series has 700 million downloads across all platforms, and the new title will launch March 22 on iPhone, iPad, Android, PC and Mac. The game will also see a boxed retail release courtesy of Focus Multimedia on April 20.
