Romero and Carmack's Blackroom Kickstarter put on hold to make a gameplay demo

Earlier this week, John Romero and Adrian Carmack announced their Kickstarter campaign for their FPS, Blackroom.

In their latest update, they explain that they're "pressing 'PAUSE' on the fundraising campaign for BLACKROOM to complete this gameplay demo. Simply put, this will take more time than the Kickstarter has left, so we’ve decided to suspend the campaign and launch a new one when the gameplay demo is ready.

"We believe, however, it is the right choice. We know you do, too. Thanks to your feedback, we know we should have included it at launch."

The campaign had reached just over $130,000 of its $700,000 goal at the time the project was cancelled.

Talking to Develop, Romero said, "All the comments we’ve heard from people say that they want to see some gameplay. They like the idea, they think it’s really cool but they want to see some of it."

He added, "we’ll stop the fundraising for now, finish the demo we’re working on and then do it again. If they don’t like that, then we don’t make that game – but we think they will like it."

Romero estimates that it'll be another two months before the demo is finished, after which they'll relaunch the campaign.
