Rockstar donates 5% of revenue from in-game purchases to charity

Rockstar Games has donated 5% of the revenue it earned from in-game purchases in GTA Online and Red Dead Online throughout April and May to a variety of charities all over the world.

The news comes from the Rockstar Games Twitter account, where the company posted a statement about its recent donations. You can check out the tweet below.

"The Rockstar Games community is amazing," reads the official statement. "Recently we pledged to donate 5% of our revenue from purchases in GTA Online and Red Dead Online in April and May to help those in the communities around our studios and beyond who have been hit hardest by the global pandemic - and thanks to you all, we have been able to make substantial donations to a huge amount of charitable endeavors.

"It's truly humbling to see how you have helped make this possible just by coming together to play our games, and we cannot thank you enough for your support," it continues. "For a list of charities and organizations that we have been able to support as a result of these donations, broken down by region, with links to the individual sites if you would like to learn more or make an additional contribution, please visit the Rockstar Newswire."

"Once again, we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and hope that everyone continues to stay safe, abide by local regulations and continue to take care of each other," the post concludes.

In related news, Rockstar recently launched the first new Red Dead Online update in ages - seriously, it's been so long that players started to dress up as clowns in order to take the p**s out of them. The update introduced the Naturalist role, which allows players to study animals.

Meanwhile GTA Online is set to receive a sizable update later this summer, which will add an entirely new area to the game.
