Rock Band Network enters open beta

RBN

Harmonix's Rock Band Network has now entered open beta, allowing budding musicians to share and sell their music.

Songs on the network will sell between 99c and $2.99, with 30 percent of profits going to the creator.

"We expected this to be an initiative that would appeal to unsigned artists," said MTV's SVP for music and games Paul DeGooyer, speaking to the Wall Street Journal.

"What was surprising to us was how many artists with hit records have offered themselves up."

However, the head of record company Sub Pop, Nirvana's original label, said upcoming talent most likely won't be using the service.

"At $3 apiece nobody's looking to 'Rock Band' as a discovery tool. That's not going to happen," says Sub Pop head Tony Kiewel.

The service is currently only available on Xbox 360.
