Digital Foundry reports what works and what doesn't in Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise of the Tomb Raider has been given the Digital Foundry treatment.

Ultimately, DF notes that Rise of the Tomb Raider feels like "a genuine step forward in terms of rendering technology," with significant improvements made to the game engine.

However, the report notes that "image quality and performance aren't exactly where they need to be" because while hitting 1080p "is important," without a high quality anti-aliasing solution in place it can feel rather underwhelming in places.

"The fact that performance often feels rather unstable throughout only serves to suggest that perhaps pushing for a full 1080p on Xbox One in this case has taken its toll," stated the report.

One of the largest takeaways from the report is how close the Xbox 360 version appears to be with the Xbox One version of the game based on media available at present.

Digital Foundry said it plans to "delve deeper" in to the 360 version in the near future, but "first impressions seem to suggest this is a game worth playing on both platforms."

The report is rather great for folks (like yours truly) who aren't super tech savvy, as it lists what works and what doesn't in a nice bullet format. Go give it a read.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is out today on Xbox consoles.
