Riccitiello: EA to announce "very exciting" FPS entry "later in the year"

EA CEO John Riccitiello has said that it's to announce a "very exciting" FPS title it has on its books "later" this year.

Speaking in the publisher's Q3 financial call last night, Riccitiello was answering a Medal of Honor-related question when, after discussing EA's current and future FPS line-up, he dropped the heavy hint at the end.

"I've been saying that it's our long-term goal to take back the first-person shooter category leadership. We made strong progress in calendar '10 over calendar '09," he said.

"This year, with the trail end of Battlefield Bad Company 2 still doing well, Medal of Honor doing well, Crysis [2] and Bulletstorm, we're clearly going to make more progress on our goal, and that's before we get to what I think is going to be a very exciting entry later in the year that we're not yet announcing."

Riccitiello didn't drop any hints as to what it could be, but it's probable that it's going to be Battlefield 3: something the exec has said will be out within the final six months of 2011.

The DICE shooter is due to be formally revealed at GDC on March 1 as part of an EA Partners press conference.
