The Resident Evil Village PC specs are needlessly complicated, so we try to decipher them

The PC requirements for Resident Evil Village have arrived, they're just not your usual spec tables.

Capcom has today unveiled all the PC specifications required to run Resident Evil Village on PC. In a welcome change, the developer actually posted performance targets for each set of specs - but in this case at least, it's made things worse.

Unsurprisingly, the PC specs, posted to Steam earlier, also confirm that ray tracing - a feature recently announced in the most bizarre of ways - will work on Nvidia as well as AMD GPUs. The extent of ray tracing support in Village has yet to be properly outlined, so best temper your expectations for now.

It appears Village will offer a 'Prioritise Framerate' option on PC, which is what Capcom has seemingly designed the minimum specs around. There's also going to be a 'Favour Visuals' option, more suited for the recommended specs. Both sets should deliver 1080p at 60fps, when the appropriate settings are selected, according to Capcom.

Over on the game's official website, Capcom complicates things by explaining that the recommended specs can also deliver 4K at 60 or 45fps, but only when certain GPUs are present. It's all unnecessarily convoluted, and having a Japanese-only reference for some of those details isn't helping, either. Nonetheless, we'll try our best to neatly summarise it all.

Resident Evil Village minimum PC specs

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-7500 / AMD Ryzen 3 1200.
  • RAM: 8GB.
  • GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB VRAM / AMD Radeon RX 560 with 4GB VRAM.
  • DirectX: DirectX 12.
  • Estimated performance: 1080p/60fps (when set to Prioritize Performance). Framerate might drop in graphics-intensive scenes.
  • Ray tracing: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT required.

Resident Evil Village recommended PC specs

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit.
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 8700 / AMD Ryzen 5 3600.
  • RAM: 16GB.
  • GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 / AMD Radeon RX 5700.
  • DirectX: DirectX 12.
  • Estimated performance: 1080p/60fps (when set to Prioritize Visuals). Framerate might drop in graphics-intensive scenes.
  • Ray tracing: Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT required.

Resident Evil Village 4K-capable GPUs

  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 2070 (4K/45fps).
  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 (4K/60fps).
  • AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (4K/45fps).
  • AMD Radeon RX 6800 (4K/45fps).
  • AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT (4K/60fps).

It's still not clear which GPUs you actually need for ray tracing at 4K. In one instance, Capcom says the RTX 2070 and 6700 XT are "required" for ray tracing at all. In another, the publisher says they're capable of ray tracing at 4K at 45fps.

Village's ray tracing implementation may be so well optimised that mid-range cards can deliver nearly 4K60 with it on. It's also possible something is getting lost in translation. We'll update this story when an English blog post emerges.

Resident Evil Village is out May 7 on PC, PS4, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
