Resident Evil, Onimusha composer admits to exaggerating hearing loss

Yet another twist in the ongoing story of Resident Evil: The Director’s Cut and Onimusha: Warlords score composer Mamoru Samuragochi.

In a written statement reported by the New York Times, Samuragochi admitted that he had regained some hearing three years ago, and apologised for not revealing this fact to the public.

“It has recovered to the level where I can sometimes grasp words when someone speaks clearly and slowly close to my ears, though the sounds are still muffled and skewed,” he wrote.

Samuragochi said he was willing to be examined by doctors, and that on some days he still cannot hear at all.

Samuragochi, who has been called the "Japanese Beethoven", was famous for classical compositions written despite extreme hearing loss. Following the extraordinary confession that he had in fact been using Takashi Niigaki as a ghost writer for nearly 20 years, Niigaki twisted the knife by claiming that Samuragochi isn't actually hearing impaired.
