Resident Evil 7 just passed 5 million sales

While Resident Evil 7 unit sales were light at launch, they've certainly been catching up in recent months.

Resident Evil 7 was a critical hit, but sadly, that success didn't translate into units sold. The good news is that RE7's sales have been moving along at a fairly steady clip for the past year, leading to today's announcement that the game surpassed 5 million units sold.

Ironically, the highest selling Resident Evil game is currently RE5 with 7 million units sold, as noted by IGN. Go figure.

Resident Evil 7 first launched on January 24, 2017, where it was heralded as a return to form for the survival horror series. The game ultimately shipped 3.5 million units in its first month. It received continued support over the past year with four DLC packs, each of which has been collected in RE7's Gold Edition.

If you haven't played Resident Evil 7 yet - and you should - it's available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
