Resident Evil 4's camera had its genesis in Onimusha 3

Shinji Mikami has commented that if it weren't for certain flaws in Onimusha 3, Resident Evil 4 could have been a vastly different game.

Although there's little doubt the Resident Evil series - known in Japan as Biohazard - would see another sequel, Resident Evil 4's dramatic changes were partly inspired by the much-critiqued slice-em-up.

"If only the camera was behind the player, it would have been so much better," Mikami told Shack News, speaking of Onimusha 3.

"That stemmed the idea for creating the camera system - the [third-person shooter] style - in BioHazard 4.

"Probably if Onimusha 3 had been better, I wouldn't have thought of BioHazard 4," he concluded.
