Resident Evil 2 Bolt Cutters - Where to Get the Cutting Tool in Resident Evil 2

Once Leon Kennedy or Claire Redfield has made it into the Raccoon City police station, and before you've even encountered your first zombie in the building, you're going to find a door barred off by a chain. To get through doors like this, you’re going to require the cutting tool, an item which you can only find in one location of the Raccoon City police department.

Unfortunately for you, you’re going to have to progress a fair bit in the story, before you can actually reach the Fire Escape area. You need to make it all the way to where Marvin Branagh tasks Leon/Claire with acquiring all three medallions (which you can read about in our Resident Evil 2 medallions guide!).

When you’ve reached this point in the story, you can proceed through the door on the upper floor of the main hall, on the right side on the map. Go through here, through the door within the room to where you’re just outside of the Art Room, and turn right.

Now proceed down the corridor, all the way to the door with the bright red ‘Exit’ sign above it. Go through here, and a cutscene will trigger between Leon and Claire. After this surprisingly charming scene has played out, you need simply turn to the right, and the cutting tool will be sat right there for Leon to claim.
