Report: Nintendo to show Wii U at CES

CNet's reporting that Nintendo is to bring Wii U to CES next month, six months ahead of a previously-planned re-reveal at E3.

CNet writer Jeff Bakalar says the company is to bring the new console to the event in Las Vegas, the first time it'll have a new product on show in 17 years.

Before you get too excited, however, remember that last year it was thought Nintendo would show 3DS at CES. That was debunked by the show's organiser, CEA, after reports.

The story also follows recent speculation that Microsoft is set to drop, in some form, announcements regarding the next Xbox.

Nintendo unveiled Wii U at E3, mainly focusing on its tablet controller, leading to confusion that it was the console itself. There will be a base console along with the controller.

The company has said it plans to re-unveil the console at next year's E3 in LA ahead of its launch later in 2012.

EA, Ubisoft, THQ, Namco, Codemasters and Tecmo Koei are some of the third-party publishers to pledge its support for the hardware.

CES takes place between January 10-13.
