Sources who work at New York City-based Kaos Studios are worried that upon completion of Homefront, THQ will move the studio to its new offices in Montreal, Canada.
Kaos general manager David Votypka said he has spoken during company wide meetings regarding employee concerns about not a possible studio move, but lay-offs as well.
"This is certainly a concern I am aware of at Kaos, and have taken questions from the staff about it on a number of occasions," Votypka told Develop. "With the opening of the THQ Montreal studio the goal has always been to find a way to utilize that studio in future Kaos projects. Seeing as New York is not the most inexpensive location to develop games, utilizing Montreal one way or another is understandable.
“We've submitted various shared development scenarios to THQ, each have different pros, cons, and different costs. They are all being considered, but I don't expect that their final decision will be made for some time yet.”
Sources told Develop that the 200 or so employees at the studio are currently working through a mandatory crunch period consisting of 10-hour shifts six days a week in order to make sure Homefront meet its scheduled release date.
The crunch period was confirmed by THQ.
Homefront releases on March 8 in the US and March 11 in the UK for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
