Report: 50% of US Netflix usage is via console

Research company Nielson has concluded that half of all users of the TV and film streaming service use their home console to watch content. Facts and figures below.

The findings, based on interviews of 12,000 Netflix users in March, identified that while 42% of users view content on their home computers, 50% use their consoles. The console breakdown comes in at 25% for Wii, 13% for PS3 and 12% on Xbox 360.

Rival service, Hulu Plus, is not close to these figures for console usage - with 89% of users streaming the content to their computers, compared to just 8% for consoles.

The full breakdown looks something like this and if the numbers don't seem to quite add up, it's because survey respondents could choose more than one viewing method to reflect their overall usage.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Netflix plans to expand its service to the UK and Spain in the early stages of 2012.
