Reggie Fils-Aime has said Nintendo expects Wii to do very well during the holiday shopping period this year, despite high-profile offerings from rival console manufacturers.

Speaking during the BMO Capital Markets Annual Digital Entertainment Conference in New York today, and listened in on by Gamasutra, Reggie said Nintendo has a bit of an edge when it comes to gift-giving, due to brand recognition.

"The holidays are more important to Nintendo than to other manufacturers," he said. "We have a distinct edge when it comes to gift-giving, and it's no doubt because of the familiarity and recognition of both our brand and key franchises," he said.

Reggie also said the majority of hardware sales for 2009 came in during the last two months of the year, with Nintendo garnering around 60 percent of sales and its rivals raking in just over 40 percent.

He also cited software number for the 2009 holiday season, and claimed Nintendo platforms took in 44 percent of game sales for November and December, while offerings from other company's staked a 33 percent claim.

"[Nintendo expects] tthe same kind of advantage here at the end of 2010," he said. "From a Nintendo perspective, we have two red bundles in the marketplace that we didn't have last year. We've already begun getting a broad range of products for consumers."

Some of the firm's Q4 line-up includes Kirby's Epic Yarn, Wii Party, PokePark, and FlingSmash which are already out, along with Donkey Kong Country returns which is set for release on November 21.

Other releases for Nintendo systems, and there are many, can be found through here.
