NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime has said that consumers should not expect an update to Wii, nor a new system from Nintendo in the coming months.

"We are confident the Wii home entertainment console has a very long life in front of it," he told BusinessWeek. Preempting the suggestion that an announcement would be made regarding hardware during GDC in March, but would not elaborate on any impending E3 announcement in June.

Nintendo has faith that upcoming franchise releases for Metroid Prime and Super Mario will reinvigorate the the console, not to mention the confirmation of Netflix for Wii - which like PS3 will require a streaming disc.

Analysts have speculated for months that Nintendo's to update to the Wii to at least release a Wii HD.
