Red Dead Redemption is getting a fanmade remaster on PC
A modder is attempting to upgrade the visuals of the original Red Dead Redemption for PC players.
The first Red Dead Redemption obviously never came to PC, but the game has been playable for a while through emulators. Seeing as the Xbox One X-enhanced version gave the game some much-needed love on consoles, it's now PC's turn to play an upgraded version.
Red Dead Redemption: Damned Enhancement Project is an in-development mod by DamnedDev, a GTA Forum member who recently revealed the mod. The code is based on the emulated Xbox 360/PS3 Red Dead Redemption running on Xenia and RPCS3.
The plan is to enhance the textures, upscale the UI and HUD, and remove some of the effects Rockstar implemented in the original version to improve performance. Assuming it gets to the finish line, the mod should also bring frame-rate improvements.
DamnedDev already has a version of the mod up and running, which they plan to release sometime in December. This is an early build, however, and the modder is currently soliciting help from experienced modders and developers.
The project does not include a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2, so you'll have to rip and emulate your own. DamnedDev is likely hoping this would help it avoid the ire of Rockstar and Take-Two.
