There’s a special cutscene at the end of Red Dead Redemption 2 that’s completely missable

Hey there, Boah. Whatchu doing reading an article about the end of a game if you haven’t finished, Boah?

If you read past this point and complain about spoilers, you go to jail. Sorry, that’s the law. I’m going to talk about the end of Red Dead Redemption 2 now.

If you’ve finished Chapter 6, you’ll know how Arthur Morgan’s story comes to an end. But did you also get that special send off for your horse?

As Arthur and John battle up a hill, the bullets finally bring your steed to its knees. This triggers a touching cutscene where Arthur says goodbye and thanks the horse for its sacrifice. The camera zooms in into its teary eyes as Arthur touches its cheek.

For me, the cutscene really worked. At this point, I was using the horse of a war veteran who I had bonded with. The veteran died and asked me to take his animal. I removed my saddle from my horse, put it on the new one and never looked back. From that point, I was extra careful around cliff edges.

The thing is, this final cutscene is contextual. If you haven’t sufficiently bonded with your horse, it doesn’t trigger. It makes sense, because it wouldn’t be quite as poignant if Arthur had a moment with a horse you just stole from the roadside. Still, it’s another cool touch in a game stuffed with them.

If you want to test this for yourself, just replay the mission from the mission select menu. This gives you a default Arthur with a level 1 horse, so you won't see the cutscene - it's forever a special, one off moment you had with your favourite nag.
