Red 5 to launch new studio in Cork

Red 5, developer of free to play shooter Firefall, will launch a brand new studio in Cork in the Republic of Ireland, its been announced.

The opening of the new studio will bring in 30 brand new jobs to the city.

Red 5's CEO Mark Kern praised the Irish government in helping it come to Ireland, noting his past experience as part of the Cork-based customer service centre for World of Warcraft at Blizzard.

"The Irish government has done a phenomenal job in helping us get established in Ireland," said Kern.

"They basically accompanied us on a tour, they arranged very productive meetings with other games companies in the area, they were very forthcoming about the pros and cons of areas - I've never seen that level of support from a government before."

He added: "We're a small company and we can't have offices throughout Europe. But we can have an office in once location that has the best chance of having a lot of speakers of different languages and Ireland has become a great place for that."

Red 5's flown in a number of staff from its US headquarters to oversee the recruitment process. Once set up with a community and support teams, the new studio will support localisation for Firefall and more.
