Rebellion "proud" of AvP violence

Rebellion told us that Aliens vs Predator's violence is something the studio's "proud of," but that a high level of gore was "essential" for the reboot.

Design head Tim Jones did note, though, that people getting their heads ripped off is just one aspect the team's pleased with.

"The kill moves are just one part of a very rich, deep and rewarding melee system," he said.

"While they look great, and can cause a stir if seen in quick succession, it’s fair to say there’s plenty else we’re just as proud of in the game."

He added: "The violent acts of both the Alien and the Predator are essential to the licence, and to creating fear during the Colonial Marine single-player campaign.

"That’s why we couldn’t allow ourselves to remove them or tone them in order to achieve a particular rating in any territory."

Aliens vs Predator is nothing if not mentally violent. Kill moves include Aliens shoving that funny mouth thing into Marines' heads, Predators sticking that funny wrist knife thing into Marines' heads, and other stuff involving Marines' heads. Look.

The game's out on February 19 for PC, PS3 and 360.
