Randy Pitchford says Pachter was "wrong" about Borderlands

Randy Pitchford has revealed that making Borderlands was a "labor of love" for Gearbox, which was why it was so hard for him to hear Michael Pachter say that upon release the game would be "sent to die".

Speaking with Gamasutra, Pitchford said that the game did rather well being released around the same time as Halo 3: ODST, Modern Warfare 2, and Dragon Age: Origins.

"We were sandwiched between the two biggest first-person shooter franchises ever and the guys at BioWare, who walk on water, were releasing Dragon Age around the same time," Pitchford said. "It was tough for me, because it's [Pachter's] job to analyze these things.

"You know what, Mike? I knew you were wrong."

Borderlands ended up selling around 3 million and became one of the best-selling intellectual properties of 2009.

So far, games developed by Gearbox have sold over 20 million units and generated $500 million in revenue - and those figures do not include Borderlands, which Pitchford said will get more content starting with the Secret Armory of General Knoxx.

Joining the already released Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot, this third bit of DLC provides new challenges and raises the level cap. Joysitq has some new screens for it here.

Still no date or price.

A Borderlands add-on pack will be released in April, according to GameStop, which at one time had it down for a February 23 release on PC and Xbox 360. Guess it's been pushed back to include the new DLC. Maybe.

We'll send a mail off to Take-Two and ask about it.
