Puyo Puyo Tetris 2’s ‘zany’ Adventure Mode detailed

Sega has revealed more information about Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, which arrives on December 8, 2020 for Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X (and is coming to PS5 at the ‘end of 2020’).

Originally teased back in August’s Nintendo Direct Mini, the game’s Adventure Mode has now been detailed properly.

In a surprising move, the game is going to go in something of a narrative direction, letting players "traverse space and dimensions never seen before in a new story, with a colourful cast of cute characters, bringing to life the power of Tetriminos and Puyos”.

This will involve you navigating from stage to stage along branching paths and optional levels via a new overworld map, from which you can replay stages freely and chase higher scores and better rewards.

The game, complete with its "zany story” and “unlockable content”, will also add some include Skill Battles – a mode in which you can use the play style you prefer to earn EXP and level up character stats to engage in harder battles.

And if that’s not enough to sell you on the game, the trailer above opens with Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov telling us how excited he is for the sequel. Isn’t that nice!

Similarly to the first crossover game, you are able to play Puyo Puyo and Tetris individually or mixed in together.

Anyone that buys Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 digitally on Xbox One or PS4 will be able to upgrade their game to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 version at no extra cost.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 comes to consoles later this year, and arrives on Steam ‘early 2021’.
