PUBG's next map will be bigger than Sanhok, but smaller than Erangel

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has large maps, and it has a small map, and soon it'll also have a medium map.

During the Xbox E3 presentation, we got a brief glimpse of what looked like a new PUBG map, one covered in snow.

That seems to be the case, with the game's official Twitter promising a new map coming this winter (American winter, presumably - it's winter right now over here in Australia).

Over at E3, PCGamer spoke to Brendan "PlayerUnknown" Greene about this reveal, and while it's "too early" to say too much about the map, the map's size will fall somewhere between the 8 x 8km of Erangel and Miramar and the much smaller 4 x 4km of Sanhok, the new map launching next week.

"We found 8-by-8, it's great, but it takes an inordinate amount of time to get maps of that scale done", Greene told PC Gamer. Whether this means we'll get a map exactly between the two, measuring 6 x 6km, remains to be seen.

Greene also said that they'd like to have footprint tracking in this map, so that you can look down and see where another player has gone by their prints in the snow, but they're not sure if that's feasible or not yet.
