PUBG is long in the tooth by fast-moving battle royale standards, and since March its developer has been working on a glow-up of the game’s original map, Erangel.
A new comparison video shows the transformation - though the most significant changes are below the surface.
What you can see there is the more realistic scenery and terrain, as well as some new building styles. But it’s not just the shop signage of Erangel that’s improved. PUBG Corp has made a full loot pass, and is tweaking the encroachment of the Blue Zone to reflect “emerging playstyles and tactics”.
The changes will be rolled out across a test server first, which will be occupied mainly by streamers listed on the PUBG site. The update will be made available to everyone on PC and consoles later in the summer.
PUBG has been battling to keep up with its contemporaries in recent months, namely with Rainbow Six-style charms and weapon progression. But its developer and Tencent seem to have given up on the idea of PUBG in China.
