PSX is not returning this year

PlayStation fans may have already figured out that Sony is not hosting a PSX event this year, but the company has now officially confirmed it.

PlayStation Experience (PSX) events have been a staple of Sony's yearly events schedule for a few years now. PSX takes place in December, and provides ample opportunity for fans to find out more about new games coming to the platform.

It's also another avenue for big reveals, but PSX is sadly not going to be held this year. The writing was already on the wall, what with Sony being tight-lipped about a possible PSX 2018 event this late in the year.

On the most recent episode of the PlayStation Blogcast podcast, worldwide studios chairman Shawn Layden came on to confirm that yes, PSX 2018 is not happening.

At the ten minute, 15 seconds mark, social media director Sid Shuman asks Layden the big question. "For 2018 - I know this is going to be a disappointment to some people - but we decided not to hold PlayStation Experience this year," answered Layden.

Layden went on to say that Sony doesn't have enough games to justify bringing fans to North America for a PSX this year, compared to previous years, and that the company didn't want to disappoint fans' high expectations.

At last year's event, Layden made a comment about the often-requested name change feature, implying that the feature will be available before the following PSX event. This got fans to think name change is due this year, which isn't looking like it's going to be the case.
