PSN facing problems worldwide [Update]

The issues affecting PSN earlier today have been resolved.

Update: Sony has updated the PSN status website to confirm that problems have been fixed, and that everything is back to normal.

You can read the original story below.

Original story: PS4 players have been reporting a number of problems with PSN over the past several hours. Multiple threads on Reddit are full of users complaining about general connectivity problems, failure to sign in or even launch games.

The official site for the PlayStation Network confirms there are indeed problems with Gaming and Social that could prevent some players from being able to launch games and apps, or connect to parties and chat with friends. Error NP-39225-1 appears to be the most common.

The most recent update on this outage was posted hours ago, and it appears reports are still coming in. Though the problems do appear to be affecting players worldwide, not everyone is running into the same issue.

Sony didn't say if the problem is related to increased demand caused by lockdowns worldwide, or because of some other reason. We'll keep you updated as the situation develops.
