PS4 system software beta sign-ups open ahead of major update

PS4 is getting a pretty hefty firmware update, and Sony is sensibly testing it ahead of general release.

Sony has announced a beta program for its next major PS4 system software update. I wonder if this will be the fabled 3.00 firmware, which is supposed to deliver YouTube streaming, video sharing on Twitter and loads of new community features and improvements?

According to the PlayStation Blog, the beta kicks off in early September. Testers will be able to roll back to earlier system software at any time during the test.

Join the PlayStation Forums and sign up for the beta for a chance to participate.

Two of my Destiny buddies have been affected by the last PS4 firmware update's tendency to introduce disc read or eject errors, so I'm pleased to learn both that there's a new version coming and that Sony is going to test it more widely before release.

Thanks, Gamespot.
