"We're still investing strongly in PS4" says a PlayStation VP

The vice president of UX Design at PlayStation recently confirmed that there's "lots more life in the PS4," implying that an immediate next-gen purchase isn't necessary for fans.

The news comes from LinkedIn, where PlayStation vice president of UX Design Matt MacLaurin has been fielding questions on a range of details about Sony's upcoming next-gen console.

Among the many inquisitive fans hungry for more information on the PS5 are a variety of players who are saying things along the lines of, "I should have waited for the PS5," implying that people who came late to current-gen should have saved their money for next-gen.

If you're among these people, fret not: "You'll be fine," wrote MacLaurin in a response on LinkedIn. "Lots more life in the PS4 (pro I hope?)"

Other commenters expressed similar concerns. "Congratulations," wrote one person. "Again a great product... I am using [a] PS4 Slim right now. I am a little worried now I might have to buy a new PS5.

"Take your time," came MacLaurin's response. "We're still investing strongly in PS4."

This wasn't the only thing MacLaurin confirmed during this informal LinkedIn Q&A, though. On top of the fate of the PS4, he also revealed some new information about the PS5 itself.

MacLaurin confirmed that the PS5 interface will be a full, "100% overhaul of PS4 UI," and even explained why the PS5 is so much bigger than its predecessor.

He also reckons there will be a variety of PS5 special editions available for players, noting that he's personally gunning for a Horizon: Forbidden West one. As a matter of fact, BossLogic actually designed a Spider-Man: Miles Morales PS5 mock-up, if that's something you think you'd be interested in. It's not official, obviously, but it looks impressive enough to fool most people.

In related news, it was recently revealed that the PS5 and new Dualsense controller will be completely covered in PlayStation symbols.
