PS4 is "world's biggest console launch" - analyst

PlayStation 4 has the had the most successful launch of any console to date, according to analyst firm DFC Intelligence, and is going to win this generation's console war.

By selling 2.1 million units since launch the PS4 has become the "world's biggest console launch", DFC Intelligence said in a report celebrated by Sony, as reported by Shack News.

DFC Intelligence expects PS4 to beat out Xbox One this generation overall, although it won't join the ranks of the best-selling consoles of all time.

"The initial success of the PlayStation 4 bodes well for its future. The PlayStation 2 and Wii went on to be the best selling console systems ever. DFC Intelligence does not believe that the PlayStation 4 will surpass those systems but reiterates its forecast that the PS4 will be the number one system of this generation," the firm said, although it believes the PS4 may outsell the PS3, something Sony is bang behind.

The Xbox One managed 2 million sales in the same period, but DFC thinks its appeal "is limited more to a core demographic". The firm expects Titanfall to boost sales, though.

DFC also reiterated earlier messaging that it expects the Wii U to match maybe half of the Wii's lifetime sales. Ouch.

Take Two boss Strauss Zelnick expects the PS4 and Xbox One to overtake the PS3 and Xbox 360.
