PS4 games & Sony Music Unlimited to receive more cross-functionality, Sony suggests - report

PlayStation 4 and Sony Music Unlimited could benefit from increased cross-functionality in future. The potential of both gameplay and music streaming working in tandem was discussed by Sony Network Entertainment's Anu Kirk in a recent interview.

It follows Valve's pledge to offer cross functionality on Steam, which enables gamers to manage local song files on their computer from within the store app.

Now, speaking with Pocket-Lint, Kirk mused, "We're looking at ways to add more integration for gamers on that platform in the near future. It would be silly for us not to look at more close integration of gaming and the Sony Music Unlimited service."

It makes sense, given Sony Music Unlimited's usage spike since PS4 launched, with some 7 million hours of music streamed since then. To that end Kirk added, "The usage has exceeded our expectations. The business has more than doubled in subscriber growth and we've sustained that momentum."

Finally; when asked if Sony Music Unlimited would offer playback quality above 320kbps, Kirk replied, "Higher than 320 is probably not going to happen for quite some time."
