PS4 firmware update 7.01 is out now

Sony has rolled out one last firmware update for PS4 this year.

Earlier this morning, a new software update for PS4 consoles was released. Firmware version 7.01 is an incremental update, which means it doesn't add any new features.

What we do get, however, is the standard, "This system software update improves system performance" patch note, which is likely referring to some behind-the-scenes security change Sony made that won't have an effect on most people's experience.

As with all firmware updates, 7.01 is required if you want to go online in any way. The update is just a 447.9MB download, and it should automatically install on your console if you left it in Rest mode.

The previous update, firmware 7.00, expanded the party size to 16, improved audio quality in party chat, added Remote Play for Android and more.
