PS4 broke sales records in Australia last year

PS4 news from the land of sunburn, deadly animals and increasing video game industry revenues.

The PS4 had a heck of a year in Australia, according to NPD Australia's 2015 data.

To nobody's surprise the PS4 was the best selling home console in 2015; it was responsible for 59% of current-gen home console hardware unit sales and also 59% of overall current-gen home console market value.

Over the course of the year, PS4 software outsold "its closest competitor" by 82% in value and 84% in units. PS4 software accounted for 49% of all console software sales in 2015.

Additionally, Sony Australia said the week of Christmas 2015 and December 2015 as a whole both smashed previous performance records for PlayStation in Australia.

None of this is shocking; the PS4 is out-performing the Xbox One and the poor old Wii U in North America, Europe and Japan, and is going from strength to strength - recently achieving 35.9 million sales worldwide. That's not to say the Xbox One isn't doing well enough, of course.
