Ubisoft clarifies Assassin's Creed 4 director's "same ship" comments

A comment from Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag creative director Jean Guesdon earlier this week suggested we might see both Sony and Microsoft's new consoles by the game's release; however, Ubisoft has since reached out to VG247 to clarify Guesdon's comments further.

Black Flag is scheduled for release on PC, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Xbox 360 on October 31. The game's website says it is "also coming to next generation consoles", which is presumed to mean the PlayStation 4 and whatever Microsoft finally calls the in-development console codenamed Durango.

Spotted by NowGamer, Outside Xbox asked Guesdon whether all versions of the game would release at the same time, to which he replied "same ship".

In theory, this meant both new consoles would need to be out by October 29 - and you hear this for yourself in the video interview below; the question comes at 5:42.

A Ubisoft spokesperson told VG247 that what Guesdon meant by "same ship" was that the game was given a same ship date for only Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U. Not Durango and PS4.

Sony put a "holiday 2013" launch window to the PS4, but Microsoft hasn't even unveiled Durango yet. Nevertheless, best estimates have had the new hardware down for November launch at the latest for quite some time now.

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag releases October 29 in the US and on November 1 in the UK for PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360.

Thanks, woe.
