Private matches coming to DOOM in free update expected this summer

DOOM's campaign is rad but the multiplayer hasn't proved as popular.

Eurogamer gave id Software a gentle savaging over it, especially on PC where cheating is rampant. In response, executive producer Marty Stratton said fixes are on the way.

"We are already working on private matches with custom game settings and expect to include that in a free update this summer," he said.

You may recall the DOOM alpha had a couple of features and options that aren't available in the full version, which Stratton said needed work before they went public.

"We are working on most of those updates now," he promised.

Other upcoming improvements include bots for both standard multiplayer and SnapMap, multiplayer-oriented SnapMap features, and possibly even a server browser.

Finally, id is looking at ways to smack cheaters, and there's a bunch of free and paid DLC on the way. The full interview is a must-read if you're feeling a bit underwhelmed by DOOM's multiplayer.
